Level 8 Region Team Camp This Weekend

The Level 8 Region Team Camp is July 30th-Aug. 1st. It will be held at Golden Gymnastics. The head coach this year is Dean Morals from SAGA Gymnastics. Remember that all coaches are welcome to attend these camps.

Just getting back from a great National Championships and first of all I would like to say Congrats to Yul Moldauer as he is the Level 9 NATIONAL CHAMPION!! (woot) Also Congrats to 5280, the coaches and Beth and Jim Trammell for supporting such a gymnast and helping make Colorado look good.

It was also good to see others in the event semi finals and finals Colton Wulf, Michael Kerl, Drew Burton, Adrain Evans, Hayden Henreolle, Jeremiah Lamphere, Jamie Corona, Caulder Trader, Max Vess, Kirk Malm and many more …sorry if I didn’t list your gymnast names there are too many for me to remember. J

I have also attached a random, impromptu picture of any of the Regional Team boys that I could grab…some of them had walked away before I had this grand idea to get a picture of all of them so apologies if your gymnast is not in the picture.

Also it was good to see the Region 9 Level 10 team finish in 7th place. Hopefully next year we can just keep moving up the ladder. The Level 9 Regional team finished 4th which is a great improvement and they all looked good.

It was good to see Colorado and the Region working well together. And I think the state of Colorado was well represented at Nationals.

Highlights from the 2010 Pacific Coast Collegiate Classic, which featured some of the top NCAA gymnasts from the U.S. and Japan, will be on TV today in several major markets. Air dates and times are listed below.
The Japanese men's collegiate all-star team won the meet, posting what was then an NCAA season high score. Stanford and Cal finished second and third, respectively, and Cal junior Kyle Bunthuwong won the all-around.

Collegiate National Championships at Air Force

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., March 23, 2010 – The College of William and Mary and Arizona State University have their sights set on defending their Varsity and Collegiate Club Division titles, respectively, at the 2010 USA Gymnastics Men’s Collegiate Championships at the U.S. Air Force Academy’s Cadet Field House in Colorado Springs, Colo., March 26-27. Four schools are entered in the Varsity Division, with six competing in the Collegiate Club Division.
“USA Gymnastics is proud to sponsor the USA Gymnastics Collegiate Championships as part of its efforts to support and promote collegiate gymnastics at all levels,” said Steve Penny, president of USA Gymnastics. “Collegiate gymnastics is an important segment of our sport and this event provides additional universities the opportunity to compete for a national title.”
At the men’s USA Gymnastics Collegiate Championships, the team competition is divided into two categories, varsity and collegiate. The varsity competition is for Division I, II, or III, four-year institutions with gymnastics as a varsity sport, and the collegiate team category is for two-year or four-year degree-granting schools with gymnastics as a club sport.
The schools in this year’s field are: Varsity -- College of William and Mary, Springfield College, U.S. Air Force Academy and U.S. Naval Academy; and Collegiate Club Division -- Arizona State University, College of Brockport, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Portland Community College, University of Texas and University of Washington
The competition opens on March 26 at 5 p.m. with team and all-around finals, followed by individual event finals on March 27 at 5 p.m. The event will be held in the West Gymnasium.
Last year, William and Mary won its 13th team title since first competing in the event in 1994. Arizona State captured the team title for the third straight year and 12th time overall since first competing in the event in 1987.

Great job everybody at the 2010 Colorado Men’s Gymnastics State Championships! All the gyms did awesome and it was nice to see so many smiling faces. We would like to thank Apex and 5280 for all their hard work in hosting the meets this weekend. If you had athletes do well be sure to call their school and the local paper to make sure they get recognized for their awesomeness. Now let’s get ready for Regionals!

State Meet Notes

With State Meet being this weekend, I wanted to go over a few things and hopefully have no issues with the Regional Entry forms.

USAG Memberships – Your memberships will be in the process of being checked this week. Please make sure your Safety Certification, Background check, and USAG Memberships are up to date. I really don’t want to make anyone leave the floor at the state championships.

Regional Entry Forms – The best way to do this is to pre-fill out your form and simply cross out the athletes that don’t qualify. This will save time and avoid mistakes by filling out the form at the last minute.

Regional T-Shirt form – Once again, pre-fill out the form and just cross off who doesn’t qualify

Checks - should be made out to: “USG Colorado” for both the Regional Entry and the Regional T-Shirt order. For bookkeeping purposes I would like 2 checks. One for the Regional Entry and one for the T-Shirts. I would like the 2 checks to come from your gym and avoid multiple checks from your parents.

Injury Petitions – Injury petitions should be filled out and have a doctor’s note (if applicable) and scores from this season showing that the gymnast has attained the qualifying score during the year. Also a letter stating the circumstance for the petition may be required for non injury petitions such as religious, personal, etc. All petitions and documents should be turned in with your entry forms at the State Meet. Include the petitioned gymnast on your Regional entry form and put “Petition” next to his name. The Regional board will review the petition and let you know of the decision. Submitting Forms – All entry and t-shirt forms must be turned into me Sunday night at the end of the optional competition. You can submit your forms on Saturday after the Level 5 session if you have no optional gymnasts that are competing on Sunday. All forms must be in my possession on Sunday night.

Qualifying Score – This year there is a qualifying score for ALL levels to the Regional Championships. Please review the information below and make sure you are aware of the process:

Update on the Level 8 – 10 Qualifying Score (2010 03 02)
The Region IX Board voted to update the Level 8 – 10 Qualifying Procedure for the 5/4/3/2/1 Event Qualifiers.
•An Athlete that is noted as an All Around competitor in the State Championships in Level 8 - 10, must score a 60.0 to qualify for the Regional Championships.
•A 5/4/3/2/1 Level 8 – 10 Athlete may compete at the State Championships in all six events so his score counts as an All Around to assist the club in the Team Score. This will assist the smaller clubs be competitive in the Team Title.
    o The Athlete must designate himself on the State Entry Form that he is a “5/4/3/2 or 1 Event Participant” and note which events he will be competing
    o The Athlete will have to average a 10.0 on those events (example 3 event person must score a 30.0 or greater to qualify)
    o The Athlete will only compete on those events at the Region IX Championships.
    o It is the requirement of the Club Coach to inform the State Chair that the Athlete is a “5/4/3/2/1” Athlete and that he has qualified for Regional’s.
    o The Coach must include this athlete on the Regional Entry Form, noting this athlete is competing on the events he qualified for and pay full Entry Fee.

State Meet Locations

Congrats to Apex for being awarded the Level 4 & 5 State meet and 5280 for being awarded the Level 6 -10 State meet.
The Level 4 & 5 State Meet will be Saturday March 20th and the Level 6 – 10 will be on Sunday March 21st

This was decided unanimously by our state board and I would like to thank them for their help in the decision.

I would encourage more gyms to really think about hosting the state meet. I would like to see different gyms each year growing their gyms and having a meet during the year and then after getting a competition under their belts…have the state meet. There are many options that we could look at to accommodate newer clubs and that could include: splitting the Level 4 state meet from the Level 5 state meet so that it is a smaller competition for the host clubs and also giving more opportunity to more clubs. Please talk to me about it.
